Academy of Astrology

The Academy of Astrology is a school of traditional Western astrology. We teach the craft as it was practised before the nineteenth century — a body of technique built on dignity and reception, the doctrine of the houses, and a small set of timing methods that have proved themselves over two thousand years of use.

That choice is not nostalgia. The older material is simply more precise. It says what a planet can and cannot do in a given place, it ranks testimonies instead of listing them, and it expects a judgement to be defensible. A student who learns it acquires something rarer than a vocabulary: a method.

What we do

• Teaching — a structured course in traditional practice, together with seminars and workshops on single subjects.
• Consultation — natal, horary and electional work, with written judgements that show their reasoning.
• Research — long-running projects on rectification, house division and the term tables, open to anyone who wishes to contribute data.
• Publication — reference tables, articles and the Tradition, our journal of predictive astrology.

Where to begin

If you are new to the older material, the reference tables are the shortest way in: the table of essential dignities, the planetary hours, the firdaria. Each fits on a page and each is used in nearly every judgement.

If you already practise and want to see how a traditional delineation is argued, read the articles — they work through real charts step by step, which is the only way the method can honestly be shown.
